Comparing
People inevitably ask you who your baby looks like, which child, which side of the family, which Aunt, Uncle, etc. I never have a good answer for this. For some reason, I can’t see the similarities OR the differences very well at all unless I am looking at pictures. So for fun, I went back and looked for Elijah and Elena’s First Bath pictures, and compared them to Irina’s. I figure they are all close to the same age in these pictures.
Now that I see all 3 pictures in a row, I feel like they are all completely different looking! I actually hadn’t realized just how different they all looked until I did this.
What do you think?

Sorry for the slow blogging week… it’s not because I went into labor and didn’t tell you all or something. I have just been laying low, trying to keep up on housework, keep up on sleep, and all that jazz.
Tomorrow is my due date! So sometime between now and two weeks from now we will have a new baby out in the world. I keep telling myself it can still be quite a ways from now that she decides to be born. Although, on the other hand, I don’t believe myself when I tell myself that. I’d like to slap my first self silly when it says that. Because my other self wants the baby born right now. All in God’s good timing though.

I don’t take the kids out walking very often because of the massive hill around the corner that I must take on were I to leave our short street. But Nick always reminds me that walking up and down our short street is just fine, and the kids do enjoy being out on a walk.

Some people seem to think the idea of camping at 8 months pregnant is crazy, but I think it was an easy, fun experience! We went somewhere local, Big Basin, to a walk-in site (not first choice while pregnant but all the drive up spots were taken). It was the perfect spot really! Set back, huge area, etc. The only draw back was that it was a little ways from the bathroom… Anyway, as soon as we got there Elijah went crazy with exploring. Give the kid dirt and acorns and he is set! He showed me very quickly that this would easily be the dirtiest camping experience of my life. Not content to just throw dirt on himself, he very nicely brought Nick and I our own and dumped it all over us as well. He was so excited about everything, including the tent, that he didn’t get to sleep until about 10pm. He was sound asleep and we were counting on a good night until our neighbor decided to randomly yelp at the top of his lungs for no apparent reason. This totally scared Elijah and he wanted to sleep with us the rest of the night. SO, not the best nights sleep. But I must say it had nothing to do with me being pregnant, Elijah just likes to kick and turn while he sleeps. The next morning he was ready to run around way before we were ready to get off our nice air mattress… but he pooped out quickly and so he took a nap in his crib while I took a nap of my own! We went on a mild hike in the afternoon where Elijah decided that fencing blocking off the path is meant to be climbed. And I soon found myself understanding my Dad’s admonitions to us kids all growing up about what paths are for. Here I am, mother to a 1 1/2 year old, already having to explain the whole path idea. Back at camp we all decided to take a nap and wound up sleeping for 3 hours! It was glorious! And that night was great too, Elijah was used to everything and slept in his crib for most of the night. So really, I don’t have any complaints about camping while 8 months pregnant. I feel like I slept more (and better!) than I do at home, Elijah was completely entertained, I got to be with Nick more than normal, didn’t do any gourmet cooking, and no swollen feet. Okay, so maybe, maybe, the bathroom thing was a little bit of a drawback, but it forced me to get my exercise in. ![]()
